Introduction Nowadays, people put much attention to the appearance whether that person is man or woman and it is becoming more and more serious problem. However, the standard of beauty is not as same as that of traditional society. Someone with fair skin, a big and sharp nose, big eyes and double eyelids, which are typical features of western people, is regarded as beautiful. Moreover, if we look at the changes in body type of Miss Korea, these phenomena is clearer. In 30 years, the average height of Miss Korea increased by 5.5cm, from 166 to 171.5, but the weight decreased from 51.4kg to 51.2kg. They became much taller but the weight was almost same and if we compare these figures to average height and weight of women between the age of 20s-30s in 2009 , which are 161.2cm and 55.4kg respectively, we can see it is not a natural phenomenon. According to these facts, we can see that the standard of the beauty in Korea has changed following that of the West, and it can be related to various social problems, such as internalized inferiority and plastic surgery. In this research, we tried to explain this phenomenon with the civilization and Seonjinguk discourse based on Foucault's theory, and eugenics. To do this, we did the documentary survey on dissertations, academic journals, periodical and occasional publications, and newspapers for historical approach.
